Wireless Internet Connection

$
0
0

I have had two incidents of not being able to connect to the internet because of some sort of connection problem.  This started after I installed Norton Internet Security.  This morning as soon as I turned on the computer the security history documented this..

Protecting your connection to a newly detected network on adapter "Software Loopback Interface 1" (IP address:127.0.0.1)

I am using a wireless system that comes with the building I live in.  When I contacted the building manager, he checked his connection and it was fine.  Thing is, every time this happens, he has to get a ladder and climb into ceiling in the hall and reset the router.  So I'm thinking Norton Security has something to do with this.

Any suggestions?

Antispam OE Hook Launcher

Hi,

I have a problem with Antispam OE Hook Launcher which is increasingly hogging resources on my pc.

If I leave the computer on, i find two versions of the program running and using up to 100 per cent of processing power.  I even get  performance alerts from NIS saying this software--its own software--is hogging resources. The only way to stop it seems ot be to restart the pc.

I'm attaching a screen shot of how it hogs the CPU.

Any idea how I can prevent this?

Many thanks in advance,

Justin

Redirect Trojan/Visus - Quads

Hello, I think a trojan or a visus has goten into my system. When I try to search for some stuff on google I get redirect to bogus websites and searchs. These sites are like free visus scan, or different search results. A mayjor one is when searching on google for norton, I click symantec and I get taken to a site that wants me to buy a norton copy to get my credit info. This happens on and off.

When I try norton scaning, it dosen't find any problems.

When I look though nortons history I found, 8119.tmp Trojan/gen detected by Auto-Protect, It blocked the virus and no further action is needed. I don't know if it removed it or quarantined it, just says blocked.

I see user Quads dose great work, if he has the time can he help?

Rootkit?

I got a error from NIS:

Norton Internet Security
20.1.1.2
Fout: 3048, 3
Windows 7 Ultimate
7601.17835.amd64fre.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030
Resultaten van Norton Autofix: 0 item(s)

and advise to download NPE this was a HTTPS connection and started this exe file its says the program was not the latest version and I had to download it again via a unsafe normal http. Very strange. I did so and did a scan with NPE. Now the program says probably bday.exe (Zhorn) is a rootkit/virus. Bday is a birthdayreminder and starts up with the computer. I use it more than six months.

Is this program unsafe? What did Symantec change? Why a alarm now?

Norton cannot run any scans..

Norton cannot scan my computer at all. Nothing happens when I click quick or full scan. Also the status bar turns yellow and red eventually as it cannot scan my computer for 1-2 weeks. Clicking "Fix" also gives an unresolvable error 'cause it cannot start any scans. Running live update repeatedly then restarting the computer solves the issue for just that moment. After a couple of days, both norton itself and I cannot start a scan by any chance.

The strange thing is that, this is happening on my both 2 PCs. They have both Windows 8 and the only security product installed is norton. So I assume it's an incompatibility issue with Win 8 between NIS 2013. I tried reinstalling norton like 5 times, even support agent remote connected my computer and did several things -including reinstalling again- The scans work fine after reinstall just like when I update&restart the computer. But the issue comes back again 2-3 days afterwards.

Since they added a win8 compatibility to 2012 product, I'm planning to return it as I don't think I'm getting any live protection at all with this awful 2013 version.

This is for Symantec employees who sometimes post and review messages on this forum and not for the awesome volunteers:

Symantec, it's been over one month now and you've told me it's a known issue. Can you please provide all of us an update regarding the following:

1) Slowness at startup of NIS 2003

2) Red X apparing when initially loaded on icon

3) Occassional fails on launching web browser to a blank page due to the Norton tool bar

Please Symantec, at least you can acknowledge you are aware of this issues and perhaps a fix is in the works? It's been over a month now.

Thank you.

Continual Forum Trojan Help Requests

These almost constant pleas for help about the recent trojans including the FBI, various UK Police, and the zeroaccess variety..

Where are they coming from?

Is it dodgy emails, of which I always delete without reading if I don'r recognise the sender or the title looks suspicious?

I, like many others, do some 'surfing' and I've never, yet, been hit by a driveby download.

With the number of problems that Quads is going above and beyond the call of duty to fix, is there no way of detecting how and where ?

NIS 2013 keys will not work on NIS 2012 installations

There are many of us who hate the new Facebook Share so much that we will not use 2013.  We would have preferred to stick with NIS2012.

But I have just been told by Norton support that NIS 2013 keys will NOT work with NIS 2012 installations.

After using Norton for 10 years (and on 1/2 a dozen machines now), it looks like I`ll be going over to a new product in the next few months.

FBI Malware

So I was searching on google last night and clicked on one of the search links. Right away this crap popped up saying that the fbi has locked your computer and you have to pay $200 to unlock it lol... yea right. I did not download anything either right before or earlier that evening. This goes right past norton and must be self installing. It is a real pain in the butt to get rid of and as i said norton doesn't detect it yet. I ran an emergency boot but yea norton said the system was clean. I hope they add this one soon as it is a very very annyoying program.

BTW it seems to be web based as it won't pop up if you dissconect your internet connection.

does the bootable CD version malware scan and virus removal include the XP system restore points ?

Does the bootable CD version malware scan and virus removal include the XP system restore points ? Or on this 2005 Dell XPS 400 model computer with XP Media Center, which we just ran a long and sucessful scan and removal on, should we turn off that system restore and then re-boot to remove previous restore points or not needed ? Also that PC has a separate partition on the hard drive for automatic back ups which may also contain copies of the malware that were deleted on the C: drive partition.

Help me, I can't renew my NIS

Dear friends.

I have  NIS installed in my computer. In order to renew it, I buy another NIS to get product key (written on the CD box) . After insert the key, there's a warning: "your current product  is NIS. The product key you entered is not valid for this product"

NIS won't run and stupid red "!" in tray icon after reinstall

$

This is really getting on my nerves so I'm apologizing in advance for my obvious anger.

This morning I started my computer (HP PC Windows 7) and the Norton tray icon was missing so I first clicked on my desktop icon to start the program, but nothing happened so I tried from the start menu, nothing happened so I went into the program folders to try and start it, nothing happened. Finally, I uninstalled the whole thing, downloaded and ran the Norton removal tool and reinstalled the whole stupid thing again. It ran update, said all updates were installed and up to date, but now the tray icon shows a little red "!"  and it's the same b.s. all over. It won't start no matter what I do. If I click on "Support" it will run and scan for errors/problems, but it says there are no problems. I can't open NIS and the stupid exclaimation point won't go away so I'd say that's a #&*!** problem!!

I have Malwarebytes and it detects no problems so the problem is definitely with NIS. I didn't install any new software or have any new updates recently so it makes no sense that it decided to stop functioning all of the sudden. My subscription does not expire until November 2013 so that's not it either. There seem to be no other issues with my computer except for Norton.

When I right-click on the icon, I can run Live Update, Quick Scan, Check for New Version and Get Support, but nothing happens when I click on Open Internet Security or View Recent History. I can't open NIS through the start menu or desktop icon either. So please, for the love of all that is good in the world, how do I fix this!?

Hi I was just using the new PC as always for a few months every thing was fine then in Augusts some time the Norton stop talking to its server. That includes the Norton NBRT- retail downloader, talked to a guy in some other country to no avail he seem to think my internet provider was at fault, didn't instill a lot of confidence in Norton. The system time is fine. Today is 10/7/2012 11:49 am by the clock.
