"windows subsystem is attempting to access another system using netbios file and print sharing"

I set NIS2013 for manual program control. I keep getting the following prompt:

"windows subsystem is attempting to access another system using netbios file and print sharing"

Should I "Allow Always" (the recommended action) or is this a security threat and should "Block Always"? In the latter case, will any Windows feature be crippled? Thanks.

NIS Security re-installation question

HI guys, I hope you can help me.

I have installed NIS on three PCs which went fine. However yesterday I decided to upgrade one of the machines from Windows 7 to 8. Unfortunately I was experiencing all sorts of problems so had to refresh the PC. This has solved the problems but in the process it removes your programs and  it means that I have to reinstall NIS.

The only problem is that in my account it is telling me that I have no 'Available Installs'. How do I reactivate my Norton subsription on this PC?

Thank you in advance for your help.

NSS - Auto-protect, SONAR, Antispyware, Incoming/Outgoing Email Scanning Off

Tonight  Auto-protect, SONAR, Antispyware, Incoming/Outgoing Email Scanning are all turned off (this happened when I rebooted my PC). I tried the Fix It but it failed. I am able to do a Live Update and I also did a Full System Scan in Safe Mode (unable to do so normally). Any advice? I'm on Windows XP, SP3 and NSS v20.2.0.19

Edit:

In addition, when I do try to scan I get "Problem Detected", "Your product is inactive. For more information, go to main window of the product."

Edit 2:

Should note that I got this via Comcast so my subscription is good (and product is working fine on other 2 computers)

NIS20 and XP: ccsvchst occasionally hangs at shutdown

Using NIS 20.2.0.19, about 1/4 of the time at Windows XP shutdown, ccsvchst.exe will not shut down, and an "End Task" notification pops up.  I then have to use the "end task" button to go ahead and shut down.   I have seen a couple of other threads on this matter, and although there are some suggestions to try (some of which involve editing the registry), it's not clear if a definite cause/solution has become apparent in the meantime.  Like I said, it doesn't happen every time, maybe every fourth or fifth time, kinda unpredictably.   When I upgraded from 2012 to NIS20, i had uninstalled NIS12 and ran NRT twice.

Does this continue to be a known issue?  And secondly, is this problem limited strictly to shut-down; i.e., I hope it's not hanging up while the computer is running.  I'm not finding any errors in the history log.  So I assume (or rather I hope) it's just a nuisance and not affecting my protection any.

NIS 2013 and Windows 8, Weekly NRT and reinstall.. Whats going on ???

I hoping to get some direction on this, nearly every week I get a failure of NIS 2013 that it fails to show updates, and failing to be able to select system scan options. Without fail, I need to run Norton Removal tool, as the self fix in NIS 2013 fails to fix and provides me the only option, remove and re-install, this is now weekly event. (6 Times) Enough is enough!!! I seem to get updates virus def's after re-installing, and a "patch" and all goes ok for a few days then its a case of cant select scan options on the UI and the definitions show about 24-48 hours out of date. Pulse updates are enabled. This error must be associated with a update, and as a side effect is my bio finger reader driver, this file gets corrupted, every time.. I am getting to a point of considering to remove NIS 2013, too many issues flashy UI doesn't mean it working or protecting me.

Local Web Services cannot be accessed via wifi and a port

I've build some web services on my PC and I'm trying to access them now via my mobile devices: iphone, Android Tablets.

Norton seems to block the communication using my wifi.

mypcaddress:2012/mobilewebservices.asmx is never accessible from my devices.

How can I unblock this from the firewall ? Even when I turn off the "smart firewall" and "intrusion prevention" I cannot access it from the devices.

Thank you

Only just started but now had two of these mail reject messages from Norton. Virus scan seems to come up clean. Any idea what this error code means? Both emails sent to two different people with two different (clean) attachments.

Recently, all my web pages have started highlighting and underlining various words and phrases.  When I hover my cursor over these, a pop-up link appears.  I have not clicked any of these links and would like to remove this function.  I've tried right clicking on the page to turn off whatever is causing this with no success.  I am not sure if this is a virus or not.  Any thoughts?

Dear Norton Community,

We are glad to announce that we have completed testing our latest inline releases of Norton AntiVirus and  Norton Internet Security and we are ready to release the patches for English users.

To receive the update, simply run LiveUpdate and download the update. A reboot will be required for Windows XP & Vista customers. No reboot will be required for Windows 7 or Windows 8 customers.

To verify you have the update, launch the Main User Interface, click on Support, and select About. The version number of the new release for Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security will be 20.2.1.22.

20.2.1.22.png

Please Note: The patch is currently available to ENGLISH users ONLY. We will be releasing the patches in other regions soon.

The FAQ below tries to answer some common questions:

1. What is the version number for this patch?

The version number is 20.2.1.22.

Please note that all Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus customers running version 20.x with a valid subscription will receive this update for free. Not using the new Norton products? See if you qualify for a FREE update to the newest version by visiting the Norton Update Center.

2. When will I receive the patch?

As a standard practice, we are deploying the patch in a phased manner. We have released the patch to some randomly selected customers. We will then monitor our telemetry, as well as this forum, for any problem reports or issues.  Once we have confirmed the effectiveness of the patch we will make it available to all customers. We will post an update on the Norton Community Forums when we make the patch available to all customers.

3. How can I manually install these patches?

All customers will receive the patch once we have confirmed its effectiveness. However, if you did not receive the 20.2.1 update and wish to apply the patch immediately, please contact Tony Weiss via email (address is visible on profile) requesting the patch. Be sure to use "Update 20.2.1 patch request" as your subject. Expect a reply within 24 hours.

4. What are the changes in this release?

Below are the changes and fixes introduced in NIS/NAV 20.2.1:

Is this valid or am I being scammed?

Called Norton phone number listed in their website to ask about a bill on my credit card that seemed too early.  The guy in India looked into this and said that the billing was in error and not to worry about it BUT he got into my pc and looked around and announced that my pc (one year old and protected by Norton) was infected and could only be fixed if I paid them $199 (!!!) to fix it.  I told them that it didn't sound right but I would get back to them.

Can this be legit?  $199 to remove a virus?  The PC only cost $350!  Could this be a fake scam site?

Help Please!

Decided to use NRT, rebooted, installed NIS 20.2.1, ran liveupdate (must have had to reboot at least 3 times) but eventually everything was up to date. Within half an hour, Autofix ran on its own accord and reported 3048,3. There was no indication of the cause. I have added no new hardware, there are no yellow exclamation marks. Machine is Dell running XP SP3.

NIS LiveUpdate bug on Windows 8

Hi. I recently got a Laptop on Windows 8 OS and have a 60 day free NIS trial on it. However, yesterday the Liveupdate didn't run at all. I run it manually but it still says it was last updated a day ago.

I realised around that time I disabled the Norton Toolbar. I don't know if that affects it but I sttill don't understand why the live update says I did it a day ago when I manually did it not long ago.

HELP - Strongvault removal

$

During the installation of Freecorder 7, STRONGVAULT was (unknown to me) pushed to my PC, a Windows 7 64-bit system.  Strongvault pushes ads constantly and I have been unable to remove it.  I tried Revo Uninstall, as well as the Fixit application from Microsoft.  I also went to the System Configuration tool, Startup tab, and unchecked the box besided Strongvaultapp.exe to try to prevent it from loading.  When I Apply the change, the check magically reappears by the application, so I don't know how to even prevent it from loading.

It this application isn't a virus by a different name, I don't know what is.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
